SEALSTONE.
By Blanca and Ana :
"Sealstones were used to seal documents, boxes or even doors to protect privacy in written signatures today; the Greek word was character for good reason. Precious stones were often used, in highly skilled craftsmen were employed to decorate them."
We chose this object in the Ashmolean Museum because we think they were a very interesting way to sign up and to let them know they were important documents.
They are very old, they exist since the time of Alexander The Great (356-323 BC).
Even more important and such an interesting fact is that they had and specific sealstone for every important person, they could have an animal on it or like in Alexander's sealstone, his own face on it.
The meaning for this in our time would be as a sign, but with an sealstone.
They were a way in wich the letters were signed or sealed and also all the more important people had a differrent image, so they could link each image to each people.
